Beijing subdivision of General Motors concern showed the second version of the electric microcar - concept EN-V. The evolutioned model that has got two extra wheels is named Chevrolet EN-V 2.0.
About two years ago during Shanghai Auto Show, auto giants General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. Group (SAIC) presented three variants of urban city-car EN-V or Electric Networked-Vehicle. The nature of the project is clear from the first sight of one of the prototypes: dimensions and layout point to the fact that the main aim of the company was to develop a vehicle that can easily move in crowed urban areas and no problems with parking in not easily accessible places.
In addition, these city-cars do not pollute the air and are able to drive even without interference of the driver to the management process. What about shortcomings? - Of course, there are a lot of them, now. Though, some of them have been fixed, and the results were shown in Beijing.
The main innovation lies in the fact that this microcar has got a couple of extra wheels for stability, climate control and a compartment for luggage.
EN-V 2.0, like previous versions, has a 40-mile cruising range and can be driven by the autopilot by the means of navigation system, as well as using cameras, radar, at the same time by interaction with other vehicles. This, by the way, the plan of the creators is to reduce the number of traffic jams on the roads of cities.
While now no mass production is planned. General Motors plans to start with tests of the experimental prototypes on the streets of China to check city car in the real life.
This vehicle also reduces the risk of automobile accidents. It does not emit harmful substances to the environment, becuase it will not use fuel in the form of oil products. The power of the car is put into the lithium-ion battery that can be recharged. This can travel up to 40 km. Also, this car can simplify your life, because it is able to choose the shorter route. If Chevrolet discovers the emergence of obstacles, the speed of the machine in such cases is slowing and it stops.
